5G in India – What it means for you?

The much-awaited announcement of 5G services in India came in recently and in the
next few months, a lot of us would have made the switch from the current 4G to 5G.
Everybody is super excited about this development and with an economy as large as
ours, this is definitely going to be a super enabler for industries and individuals.
Today, an average Indian consumed about 14 GB of data a month, this number is
sure to see a huge surge with 5G.

But what does 5G really mean for you? Is it just all about faster internet?

Of course, the biggest feature of the 5G network will be higher speed and lower
latency – which means quicker, smoother streaming, better video calling, improved
multi-media interactions, and enhanced gaming experiences, you get the drift.

It is also set to change the ways a lot of industries function – think remote data
monitoring, telemedicine, augmented reality, and so much more. It could change the
way we deliver education, the way surgeons perform surgeries, the way doctors
diagnose illnesses, the way we monitor and predict the weather, and so much more.
The gig economy, especially the content creators will also benefit hugely from 5G,

being able to not just create better content but also have users who can consume
content better.

One major change one can expect besides all this is better network management.
There are multiple bands available in the 5G spectrum here, which should contribute
to reducing the network congestion bringing about reduced cross-connections,
reduced call drops, and better connectivity. So, even if you are in a crowded mall or
a stadium watching a live cricket match, your network will stay strong and will
connect you smoothly – letting you post that Instagram story and call all your friends
to get them jealous without a hitch.

There are a lot of avenues that 5G is expected to open up, and that mobile phone in
your hand is going to be driving that change. The way 4G got adopted in India is a
case study in itself and if it is anything to go by, 5G in India should be one of a kind
thing to happen in the entire world. Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, and
automation would be the key technologies benefitting from the 5G launch and we are
sure to see developments powered by these technologies becoming mainstream
soon after launch. The cumulative impact of 5G in India is estimated to reach a
whopping $450 billion by 2035 so that should give you a fair idea of the treasure of
opportunities we are looking at.

So, if you do not have a 5 G-enabled mobile phone, now would be a good time to
think about upgrading to one. This is one development you definitely don’t want to
miss out on, so time to be prepared!

What do you think about the launch of 5G services in India? Are you as excited as
we are? Tell us in the comments below.
